“La niña pez” es un fotolibro elaborado con fotografías del archivo familiar, dibujos escolares y textos escritos en la actualidad por la autora. Contado en primera persona a través de la voz de una niña pequeña, construye un imaginario visual que mezcla diarios de infancia y adolescencia. Reúne retazos de recuerdos e imágenes en un esfuerzo por develar lo oculto, por poner palabras donde hubo silencio, por transformar el horror en algo posible. “La niña pez” narra un tabú y se pregunta: “¿Qué harás con lo que te han hecho?”. Y la respuesta es: “Contarlo, para romper el hechizo y destruir el secreto”. Es la historia de una niña que a temprana edad, fue abusada sexualmente por su abuelo, un ingeniero, militar naval y profesor universitario.
“The Fish Girl” is a photobook created from photographs from the family archive, school drawings and texts written by the author in the present day. Told in the first person through the eyes of a little girl, it constructs a visual world that blends diaries from childhood and adolescence. It brings together fragments of memories and images in an effort to reveal what lies hidden, to put words where there was silence, to transform horror into something bearable. “La niña pez” recounts a taboo and asks: “What will you do with what has been done to you?”. And the answer is: “Tell the story, to break the spell and destroy the secret”. It is the story of a girl who was sexually abused at a very young age by her grandfather, an engineer, naval officer and university professor.
Antecedentes/ Background info
El proyecto se origina en 2012, durante una clínica de obra con la artista y psicóloga argentina Fabiana Barreda. En 2019, es seleccionado para el workshop “Photobook as an Object”, a cargo de la editora japonesa Yumi Goto en FOLA Fototeca Latinoamericana, Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires, donde se materializa como maqueta el fotolibro “La niña pez”, y se expone en el Encuentro Internacional de Fotolibros “10 x 10 Japanese Photobooks Reading Room Collection”, en la fototeca mencionada.
En 2020, la autora profundiza a través de un dispositivo terapéutico específico de ASI (Abuso Sexual Intrafamiliar) con la consultora psicosocial Sandra Barilari, para quien diseña los libros “Efecto dominó. Voces de sobrevivientes de violencia sexual en estado público” (Autopublicación, Bs. As., 2020) y “Abuso Sexual Intrafamiliar: saber qué hacer. ESI: talleres en clave de derechos. Guía práctica para profesionales de la educación” (Ed. Noveduc, Bs. As., 2022). En 2021, la Beca Creación del Fondo Nacional de las Artes de Argentina, le permite avanzar en la conceptualización de un fotolibro expandido a una plataforma multimedia. En 2023, se producen las primeras tomas fílmicas para un audiovisual que acompañará al fotolibro y que se encuentra en proceso.
En 2024, la maqueta final es presentada en el evento “Días de Maquetas”, en el marco de FELIFA Festival de Libros de Fotografía y Artes Gráficas, en el Centro Cultural H. Conti, en la Ex ESMA (Escuela de Mecánica de la Armada), centro clandestino de detención que funcionó durante la última dictadura argentina en la Ciudad de Buenos Aires. El proyecto se fortalece a través de una red de artistas sobrevivientes que intercambian sobre la temática, fomentada por la autora. Se realizan consultorías con las editoras Verónica Fieiras (Chaco Editorial), Julieta Escardó (Editorial La Luminosa), y con la antropóloga visual Loreley Ritta.

The project began in 2012, during a workshop with the Argentine artist and psychologist Fabiana Barreda. In 2019, it was selected for the intensive workshop “Photobook as an Object”, led by Japanese editor Yumi Goto at FOLA Fototeca Latinoamericana in Buenos Aires, where the photobook “La niña pez” took shape as a mock-up, and was exhibited at the International Photobook Festival “10 x 10 Japanese Photobooks Reading Room Collection” at the aforementioned phototheque.
In 2020, the author explored the subject in depth through a specific therapeutic approach to intrafamilial sexual abuse (ASI) with the psychosocial consultant Sandra Barilari, for whom she wrote the books “Domino Effect. Voices of survivors of sexual violence in the public sphere” (Self-published, Buenos Aires, 2020) and “Intrafamilial Sexual Abuse: knowing what to do. ESI: workshops on rights. A practical guide for education professionals” (Noveduc, Buenos Aires, 2022). In 2021, the Creation Grant from Argentina’s National Arts Fund enabled her to develop the concept of a photobook expanded into a multimedia platform. In 2023, the first film shots were taken for an audiovisual project to accompany the photobook, which is currently in progress.
In 2024, the final mock-up was presented at the “Días de Maquetas” (Dummy’s Days) event, as part of the FELIFA Festival of Photography and Graphic Arts, at the H. Conti Cultural Centre, located in the former ESMA (Navy Mechanics School), a clandestine detention centre that operated during the last Argentine dictatorship in the city of Buenos Aires. The project is strengthened through a network of artist-survivors who exchange ideas on the subject, encouraged by the author. Consultations are held with publishers Verónica Fieiras (Chaco Editorial) and Julieta Escardó (Editorial La Luminosa), and with visual anthropologist Loreley Ritta.
In 2025, it is published by La Luminosa Editorial.
